The Sauber drivers experienced a difficult first day of testing in Malaysia, with Nico Hülkenberg unable to make long runs and Esteban Gutiérrez experiencing some mechanical issues. Both men remain confident for tomorrow, even though they know they'll have to work hard before qualifying.

The Williams drivers were not really in the rhythm today in Malaysia, and even though this is partly explained by testing new parts, Maldonado and Bottas are aware that they still have work to do with their engineers to improve the FW35.

The Toro Rosso drivers did not shine in the rankings of the first two practice sessions in Malaysia, but there is a reason: Vergne and Ricciardo mainly focused on long runs and both men are quite satisfied with the performance of the STR8. Team Lotus started the season in the best possible way after Kimi Räikkönen's victory at the Australian Grand Prix. While the Finnish driver was able to secure a new win quite easily, his teammate Romain Grosjean had a more complicated race but still finished in the points, in 10th place.

Even though they were beaten by the Marussias, both Caterham drivers were quite pleased with their Australian Grand Prix. Giedo Van der Garde is satisfied with his F1 debut and Charles Pic believes that the Malaysian team has a good foundation to build on for the rest of the season.

The Sahara Force India team had a great Australian Grand Prix. Adrian Sutil started on an alternative strategy and it allowed him to lead the race for a few laps. He struggled more towards the end of the Grand Prix but still finished in 7th place. Paul di Resta finished just a few positions behind his teammate at the finish.

The Red Bull team had managed to place its two cars on the front row at the end of qualifying, but the race did not go as well. While Sebastian Vettel still secured a podium, Mark Webber experienced a complicated race with a KERS problem in particular.
