Sunday: Räikkönen puts Lotus on top in Melbourne
Team Lotus started the season in the best possible way after Kimi Räikkönen's victory at the Australian Grand Prix. While the Finnish driver was able to secure a new win quite easily, his teammate Romain Grosjean had a more complicated race but still finished in the points, in 10th place.
Kimi Räikkönen – Winner:
« I am happy for the team and for myself too. We had a fast car all weekend and didn’t have the slightest problem either, so we were able to focus on testing and car settings. I felt good that we could manage the tires well after the tests and the team chose a perfect strategy. I gained a few places at the start and then had a nice battle with Lewis [Hamilton] but afterwards, it was simpler; probably one of my easiest victories. You can’t start a season better than by winning the first race and obviously we hope to fight at the front of this championship, but there’s still a long way to go and we need to keep working very hard. »
Romain Grosjean – 10th:
Something seemed to go wrong with my car, so I need to sit down with the team and analyze where the problem came from. Everything was going so well this weekend until the race, but in the end, it was long and quite difficult for me. We know Albert Park is a tricky circuit, and the weather clearly didn’t help today. It was a very good weekend for the team with Kimi’s victory, so it’s clear the pace was in the car. Hopefully, I can find it as well next weekend at Sepang.
