Sunday: Red Bull hoped for more from this first Grand Prix
The Red Bull team had managed to place its two cars on the front row at the end of qualifying, but the race did not go as well. While Sebastian Vettel still secured a podium, Mark Webber experienced a complicated race with a KERS problem in particular.
Sebastian Vettel – 3rd:
« I think you’re always a little disappointed when you start from pole position and don’t win the race, but overall, it has been a good weekend for us. We had a good day today with pole and a podium – but during the race, we were a bit too aggressive with the tires and lost the front and the rear, while the others did a bit better. There are always areas where you can improve, but the result we achieved today is fair. We didn’t see Kimi [Räikkönen] on the track; he was too fast, and Fernando [Alonso] was able to pass us at a moment when we were vulnerable – but we can be happy with this third place. »
Mark Webber – 6th:
« We had some issues on the grid, with the transmission of telemetry from the car to the pit, which was not ideal for the guys to set everything up before the start. We also lost the KERS in the first part of the race. It seems we were quite hard on the tires during the first stint, and we weren’t fast enough to fight for the win today. We had a rather slow stop (due to an issue at the front), which put me back behind Jenson. We managed to recover a bit at the end, but it was Melbourne today, and it’s disappointing not to finish in a better position. It was difficult to fight with the others with a two-stop strategy. »
