After hours of deliberation, the FIA stewards have finally issued their verdict regarding Sebastian Vettel's stop at the side of the track at the end of the qualifying session for the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The German is excluded from qualifying and will start last on Sunday. The other drivers under investigation are not penalized.

Lewis Hamilton secured a brilliant pole position this afternoon in Abu Dhabi. The McLaren driver never seemed to be in trouble, and his goal for tomorrow is simple: fight for the win. Jenson Button, who has the same car, did not perform as well, leaving the 2009 world champion perplexed.

After encouraging Free Practice 3 sessions, Sahara Force India drivers had to settle for eleventh and thirteenth positions in qualifying, where the onset of night and the drop in temperatures likely affected the performance level of the VJM05. However, Hülkenberg and Di Resta have more strategic options available and hope to leave Abu Dhabi with valuable points.

Pastor Maldonado delivered a fantastic lap in Q3 this afternoon in Abu Dhabi to secure 4th place on the starting grid. The Venezuelan driver is delighted with his performance and hopes to score big points tomorrow. Bruno Senna, on the other hand, had more difficulty but the Brazilian will try to climb up the ranks tomorrow.

Charles Pic, by getting within a tenth of Heikki Kovalainen's Caterham, achieved the best performance of the season for the Marussia team, despite considering his lap not perfect. Timo Glock, on the other hand, experienced a sudden loss of grip in his final lap.

Fernando Alonso believes that his 7th place on the grid was overall the best he could achieve given the competitiveness of his Ferrari F2012. The Spanish driver still hopes to climb up in the hierarchy tomorrow, even though it won't be easy. The same sense of disappointment for Felipe Massa, who aimed for a better place on the grid.

If overall the Lotus team is satisfied with its qualifications in Abu Dhabi, only Kimi Räikkönen was truly able to showcase the potential of the Lotus E20 by qualifying in fifth position. Set to mimic his teammate, Romain Grosjean suffered a poor third sector on his fastest lap and will have to settle for tenth place.

Struggling with the balance of their car, the Toro Rosso drivers could not achieve better than seventeenth and eighteenth positions following the qualifications for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Having made an error on his fastest lap, Jean-Eric Vergne is frustrated at missing out on Q2, despite having laid the groundwork to earn an additional fifteen minutes of qualifying.

Heikki Kovalainen once again stood out as the best driver of the "new teams." The Finnish driver will start from 19th place tomorrow and could probably have done better without a DRS problem. Vitaly Petrov, on the other hand, struggled more but remains confident for the race.

Nico Rosberg aimed for 8th place on the grid and the Mercedes driver achieved his goal. However, he expects a complicated race. Michael Schumacher, on the other hand, made a costly mistake in Q2 and will start 14th but will still try to climb up the ranks to pick up some points.
