The two Caterham drivers are quite satisfied with their performances on this first day of the Malaysian Grand Prix. Charles Pic and Giedo Van der Garde focused on understanding their tire wear and gained experience on intermediates on a wet track in anticipation of a wet weekend.

In the top 10 of both sessions, Force India seems to confirm its good performance from the Australian Grand Prix last week; an impression confirmed by Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil, who will still need to work on managing the two types of tires.

Lotus continues its momentum in Australia. Kimi Räikkönen had a good first day, setting the second-fastest time in the morning session and then the fastest time in the afternoon. Romain Grosjean, on the other hand, seems to be still having some difficulties at the wheel of his Lotus, although the situation has slightly improved and there is still room for improvement before tomorrow's qualifying session.

McLaren left Melbourne with their heads down and aware that they would have to work hard to improve the performance of the MP4-28. Progress that already seems to be visible in Sepang, even though the gray car will probably not be able to play a leading role.

The Sauber drivers experienced a difficult first day of testing in Malaysia, with Nico Hülkenberg unable to make long runs and Esteban Gutiérrez experiencing some mechanical issues. Both men remain confident for tomorrow, even though they know they'll have to work hard before qualifying.

The Williams drivers were not really in the rhythm today in Malaysia, and even though this is partly explained by testing new parts, Maldonado and Bottas are aware that they still have work to do with their engineers to improve the FW35.

Unlike in Australia, Marussia did not dominate Caterham this Friday in Sepang. Jules Bianchi once again made a good impression by finishing ahead of a Williams this morning. Max Chilton, on the other hand, did not move up from the bottom of the standings. Both drivers believe that the team can still improve before starting the qualifying session tomorrow.

For this first day of testing in Sepang, the Mercedes team did not aim for performance but rather to understand the tires well in preparation for the race. Good management of the Pirelli tires is particularly important for achieving a good result on Sunday. Rosberg and Hamilton were satisfied with the day and are eagerly anticipating what's next.

The Toro Rosso drivers did not shine in the rankings of the first two practice sessions in Malaysia, but there is a reason: Vergne and Ricciardo mainly focused on long runs and both men are quite satisfied with the performance of the STR8. However, there is still work to be done to improve the setup, particularly to reduce tire degradation.

In the top 5 of each session, the two Red Bull drivers are confident but are awaiting an improvement in the car's pace for Saturday. Mark Webber found the tires rather interesting in such conditions, while Sebastian Vettel noted their significant degradation.
