For once, the Red Bulls will start from far back on the grid. Struggling with his car, Sebastian Vettel did not make it to Q3 and will start in 10th position thanks to Mark Webber's penalty. The Australian, who will drop 5 places on the starting grid, could only manage the 7th fastest time in qualifying.

In a session finally held on a dry track, but with autumnal temperatures, it was Fernando Alonso who set the fastest time, ahead of Kimi Räikkönen in the Lotus and Sergio Pérez in the Sauber. The Ferrari driver positions himself well before this afternoon's qualifying. The McLarens and the Red Bulls lagged behind, while Nico Rosberg's Mercedes experienced a technical issue at the start of the session.

Under conditions not conducive to testing, the Force India drivers waited, like most of their peers, for a slight improvement to allow them to take to the track. The drivers of the Indian team were thus able to accumulate experience in case the rain would return during the weekend.
