Saturday: The Red Bull was simply not fast enough
For once, the Red Bulls will start from far back on the grid. Struggling with his car, Sebastian Vettel did not make it to Q3 and will start in 10th position thanks to Mark Webber's penalty. The Australian, who will drop 5 places on the starting grid, could only manage the 7th fastest time in qualifying.
Mark Webber – 7th and 7th [12th on the grid]:
« I am disappointed. We would have liked to be higher on the grid to make the penalty [for gearbox change] more bearable, but we have to see what we can do tomorrow. We weren’t fast enough and couldn’t compete for the front row today. I was quite satisfied with my lap but I think fifth place would have been our maximum today.
A long race awaits us tomorrow and there will be good opportunities to move up the peloton. Clearly, we are slightly behind and we need to work on it, but the team is of quality and we know how difficult it is: we must continue our efforts.
Sebastian Vettel – 9th and 11th [10th on the grid]:
I felt pretty good this morning, the laps weren’t perfect but the car was good. There was nothing wrong this afternoon, I was quite happy with my lap, it was clean, but it wasn’t fast enough. It’s a shame to miss Q3 by so little, but that’s racing. We’ve seen in recent events that our car is quite good on Sundays, so we’ll see what we can do.
