While everything seemed to indicate that McLaren would secure its first pole position of the year, the two drivers were relegated to 2nd and 3rd place. Jenson Button will start on the clean side while Lewis Hamilton will have an additional set of new tires.

By breaking the curfew last night, the Red Bull team managed to get the car back on track, allowing Sebastian Vettel to secure a new position. For Mark Webber, the KERS remains an unresolved issue.

Timo Glock and Jérôme D'Ambrosio may be teammates, but they aren't always on the same wavelength. The German driver struggled with the wind while the Belgian driver was quite satisfied with his setup. Nevertheless, logic prevailed and D'Ambrosio was unable to place ahead of the HRTs.

The Force India cars are performing well on the Hungarian track. Adrian Sutil is in eighth position for the second time in as many races, while Paul di Resta just misses out on the top 10. In any case, both men are ideally positioned to aim for points tomorrow.

The objective for Sauber was to get ahead of Force India in qualifying. Mission half accomplished. Sergio Pérez succeeded in placing the Sauber in the top 10, from where he will start for the first time in his F1 career.

Rubens Barrichello had warned that Q3 would be out of reach, but he still hoped for better than his 15th place on the grid. A KERS issue denied him a better position on the grid, but he hopes to have a good race tomorrow. Maldonado chose not to go out in Q2 to save an extra set of super-softs, which could be an advantage in the race.

It had become an open secret over the months. It is now almost official: Turkey will not be on the 2012 calendar. It has been a victim of a schedule too packed for the teams' liking and very low attendance.
