Saturday: Williams bets on the race
Rubens Barrichello had warned that Q3 would be out of reach, but he still hoped for better than his 15th place on the grid. A KERS issue denied him a better position on the grid, but he hopes to have a good race tomorrow. Maldonado chose not to go out in Q2 to save an extra set of super-softs, which could be an advantage in the race.
Rubens Barrichello – 15th:
« Everything was going well and we had a good strategy, but I couldn’t use my KERS in sector 1 of my last lap and that compromised my time. I still had a good lap, but I am disappointed because we had a competitive stint on the softs and so we thought that 11th or 12th place was achievable with the super-softs. We saved enough tires and with a good strategy we can have a good race tomorrow. »
Pastor Maldonado – 17th:
« We decided not to run in Q2 to preserve a set of super-soft tires. It’s essential to achieve the best possible result in the race, so for our strategy, it was important to save tires today. I think there will be a fight tomorrow with the cars starting around us, but we have an extra set of super-softs. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do now. »
