The HRT drivers quickly had to deal with a brake overheating problem – a recurring issue with the F112 this season. Karthikeyan and de la Rosa therefore had to slow down and, while the Indian was able to reach the finish line in front of his home crowd, the Spaniard went off the track at turn 4, falling victim to a brake failure.

Qualified in 7th position, Kimi Räikkönen finished the race in 7th after spending most of his time in Felipe Massa's exhaust. The Finn, however, had to settle for seeing the diffuser of the F2012, due to insufficient top speed to overtake. Clipped by Jean-Eric Vergne in the first lap, Michael Schumacher quickly saw his hopes dashed by a puncture before retiring with a gearbox problem. Respectively 12th and 16th on the starting grid, the Force India drivers remained relatively discreet on their team's home turf. However, both men hope to score points in the race by relying on strategy and the belief that the VJM05 has not yet been able to show its full potential.
