Sunday: All Pic and Marussia needed was the KERS to compete
If Charles Pic experienced an ideal race, if not perfect, during which only the KERS was missing from his Marussia to fully compete with the Caterhams, Timo Glock faced more difficulties, losing all hope of having a good race right from the start, which relegated him behind the HRTs.
Charles Pic – 19th:
« It was a great race for me, especially after disappointing qualifying yesterday. We didn’t have the opportunity to show our potential, but we managed to do it today, and I’m very happy about it. I had a very good start, gained five places in the first corner, and by the end of the first lap, I was ahead of Petrov. However, Caterham has the advantage of KERS, so it didn’t take long for him to overtake me, but for the rest of the race, we stayed with the Caterhams, and as the race went on, I was getting closer to Kovalainen.
In the final laps, we constantly had to slow down because of the blue flags, which cost us time and meant that we were not able to show that we could catch up with Heikki, but the pace was definitely there.
The guys made a great stop, and the mechanics and engineers did a very good job all weekend, particularly in helping us turn things around after the qualifying sessions. I am very happy and looking forward to continuing like this in Abu Dhabi next weekend, where I will be back on a track I know well and where everything went so well for me during the young drivers’ test last year. I hope for another good result there.
Timo Glock – 20th:
« It will have been a very strange race for me. I was in the wrong place at turn 1 and lost places to the HRTs. Then, I got stuck behind Petrov for quite a few laps, and the others were able to get away. Overall, I struggled to find the pace today: on Friday, the car was better on long stints. I also suffered a lot from vibrations on my front right tire, especially in the second sector, and after 25 laps with it, I had too many blue flags. Same towards the end. Because of that, we lose more and more time, and it’s impossible to regain anything.
I can’t wait to be in Abu Dhabi for what I hope will be a better race for us.
