Sunday: Another Zero Points for Mercedes in the Race
Anonymous in qualifying, the Mercedes drivers scarcely found the spotlight in the race, except at their own expense. Clipped by Jean-Eric Vergne in the first lap, Michael Schumacher quickly saw his hopes dashed by a puncture before retiring with a gearbox problem. As for Nico Rosberg, he endured more than he would have liked.
Nico Rosberg – 11th:
« Finishing outside the points is always something difficult, and it was a tough afternoon for us here. Starting with new tires, I hoped I could gain a few places, but we just didn’t have the pace, so I had to fend off the cars coming from behind. It’s a challenging time for us, but we’re learning for next year, and that’s a positive thing. »
Michael Schumacher – 22nd:
« It was a rather unsatisfying race today. It was actually over just after the start: I lost so much time getting back to the pits with a puncture that my hopes of scoring points were dashed. In the meantime, the pace was quite good but I was too far back to gain more than a few positions. Towards the end, I had to retire due to technical reasons. »
