The Lotus F1 team was expecting a good result today in Malaysia with both of its drivers in the top 10 on the grid. While Kimi Räikkönen achieved his goal by finishing 5th, Romain Grosjean disappointed once again. The French driver, who started in 6th place, quickly found himself in 3rd place, but a mistake and an off-track excursion eventually ended his race.

Both McLaren drivers started from the front row in Malaysia, aiming for a victory or at least a podium finish. While Lewis Hamilton finished on the podium, the British driver still hoped for a bit more, although he was pleased with his race. Jenson Button clearly hoped for better, but a collision with Karthikeyan forced him to pit to change his front wing, ending his chances of a good result, and he ultimately finished in 14th position.

Sergio Pérez was the standout performer at this Malaysian Grand Prix. The Mexican driver could have even won if not for a small mistake towards the end of the race. Nonetheless, he clinched his first F1 podium by finishing behind Alonso in what was a memorable day for the Swiss team Sauber F1. His teammate, Kamui Kobayashi, wasn't as fortunate, having to retire due to an issue with his braking system.

Malaysia often offers amazing races in which drivers starting from the back manage to climb up the standings. This was the case again this year, benefiting Jean-Eric Vergne, who started 18th but finished in 8th place to score his first points in F1. His teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, had a more complicated Grand Prix and missed out on the points in 12th position.

The two drivers of the Marussia team, Charles Pic and Timo Glock, expressed satisfaction with their race today in Sepang. The German driver managed to beat a Caterham and a Williams. For the Frenchman, the learning continues, but both men hope to be even more competitive in the next race in China.

The HRT drivers were able to take part in their first race of the season this afternoon in Malaysia, and the outcome of the race was favorable for the Spanish team. Narain Karthikeyan temporarily held 7th place in the standings before finally finishing in 21st position. Pedro de la Rosa also saw the checkered flag, with the Spanish veteran finishing in 22nd place behind his teammate.

For his first arrival with the Caterham team, Vitaly Petrov managed to outperform his teammate Heikki Kovalainen. The Russian driver was pleased with his performance, while the Finnish driver was rather disappointed to have made an error, which forced him to go back through the pits, ending any hope of achieving a good position in the standings.

The McLaren Mercedes team could hardly have dreamed of a better outcome for this Malaysian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button will both start from the front row. Both men hope to come out of the first corner in the lead, and even though they expect a tough race tomorrow, their goal is to win.
