A difficult first stint for the drivers at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
After two long hours of racing, the drivers finally had their say on how they felt on the track. Conditions were not ideal, with little grip.
A real ice rink. According to the drivers. The first two hours of the race were marked by precarious situations on the track. The pace was not very sustained. The problem was a track with a lack of grip.
« The first relay was difficult. The track had little grip, so I think most drivers struggled a bit. We also had more difficulty in the straight lines than the others. I think we made the right decision by letting me start, as we gained a few positions compared to the other teams that had to bring in their Bronze at the beginning of the rain. There is still a long way to go. We will continue this strategy, stay out of trouble, and see where we stand later,” confirms Tom van Rompuy, from Corvette #81.

The rain also made an appearance during this first part of the race. Only one part of the track was wet. A situation that complicated the teams’ strategy.
Other drivers complained about the Ferrari #50. According to Sébastien Bourdais and Charles Milesi, the prancing horse car was leaking oil. This did not help the driving conditions. During a pit stop, the Scuderia checked the issue by lifting the rear hood. But there was apparently no major problem. The team did not bring the car back to the garage.
