Suspicion of cheating on tire heating: Porsche responds

This is one of the little games of the sport. When a competitor who thinks he is in the lead finds himself behind, he always looks for excuses. Often, it’s the track conditions. A car that hindered them… The reasons can be numerous. And some can be experts with this strategy.

In Le Mans, Ferrari accuses Porsche of cheating on one aspect of the regulations. The temperature of the tires. While heating the tires is prohibited, the German manufacturer seems very comfortable coming out of the pits. Enough to raise suspicions among the red team.

According to the Scuderia, the Stuttgart manufacturer could increase the temperature of the heating in the pit lane. And therefore gain a few degrees in Michelin products. This would allow to gain valuable seconds once on the track. Asked about this, Jonathan Diuguid, general manager of Porsche Penske Motorsport, dismissed any suspicion.

« There are FIA personnel constantly in our garage and I can guarantee you that they are monitoring the tires. » The Porsche manager did not elaborate further on the subject. But according to him, his team is in perfect compliance with the regulations.

At 4 o’clock, one of his cars, number 6, will start from pole position.
