24 Hours of Le Mans: Two Ferrari’s receive a penalty for the race
The official Ferrari number 51 and the private one from the AF Corse team have been penalized by the race stewards. They will serve a 10-second penalty at their first pit stop on Saturday.
The first penalty for the race has already been issued. There are even two to be more precise. And both were addressed to Ferrari: to the #51 and to the #83. At the end of the qualifications, during the red flag, they are criticized for not stopping correctly at the dedicated location.
This constitutes a violation of article 12.2.2.2.a) of the specific regulations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Consequently, both teams have been penalized with a ten-second penalty. This penalty must be served during the first pit stop of their respective hypercars.
This sanction is very minimal given the duration of the race. But in a completely crazy scenario, it could be important… In the statement provided by the commissioners, it is stated that Ferrari cannot appeal this decision.
For the record, only Ferrari #83 failed to make it through to the hyperpole. The two official cars will be competing for pole position on Thursday night.
