Less than 2 hours before the end of the race, the red flag was waved until the end of the clock. But the race management decided to restart the cars. A decision that was not appreciated by everyone.

Why were the 6 Hours of Spa restarted after the red flag?

Ferrari was grimacing. So leading at the time of the race interruption due to the spectacular accident of Cadillac number 2, the red flag was taken out. With 1 hour and 44 minutes still on the clock, the audience thought they would be able to witness a restart before the clock ran out.

But repairs on the Spa circuit took longer than expected. So the victory could have gone to Ferrari. But the race direction decided to reset the time to 1 hour 44 so that the race lasted 6 hours. So was this decision the right one?

During the suspension of the race, the stopwatch is not stopped. The driving time during a red flag period will not be counted, and the Sporting Officials will confirm the new driving times before the race resumes. If circumstances require, the Sporting Officials may decide to stop and/or modify the race time completed. Only officials are allowed on the grid. Drivers are allowed to leave their car (but must not walk away) and remove their helmet and gloves. Any driver changes are prohibited. With the Parc Fermé regulations applied to all cars, no repairs are allowed in the pits, justifying the sporting regulations of the World Endurance Championship.

In any case, this decision was not appreciated by AF Corse, who had their 499P at the top of the standings. The team filed a protest. But it did not change the final result of this third round of the season.
