6 Hours of Spa: Ferrari No. 50 will start last in the Hypercar category

After signing a second consecutive pole at Spa, following Imola, Ferrari N°50 did not meet the regulatory requirements and was excluded. Quite a dramatic turn of events.

6 Hours of Spa: Ferrari No. 50 will start last in the Hypercar category

Antonio Fuoco had still done the job: the Italian, in charge of qualifications on Ferrari No. 50, will not reap the benefits of his pole position this Sunday at 1 p.m.

Qualifications are not necessarily a benchmark in endurance, even less so this year, as uncertainty is revived at any moment of the race. But in a grid of 19 Hypercars with very similar performances, it will be difficult for the trio Fuoco/Molina/Nielsen to regain their lead in a fair manner.

However, the commissioners’ document is clear: the 499P, already in pole position at Imola, did not weigh the minimum weight at which it was supposed to be homologated for this Spa weekend. Let’s remember that the three Ferraris, the two official ones and the private No. 83, had gained twelve kilos on the scale since Imola, now displaying 1053 kg.

It remains that the Ferraris were generally off the mark, since the best of the Italians is none other than N°83 (Kubica/Ye/Schwartzman), 8th, while N°51, reclassified 10th, had not even reached the Hyperpole…

Porsche and Cadillac big winners

And naturally, this grueling race that awaits Ferrari is a godsend for Porsche, whose policy of numbers proves to be an unquestionably good solution.

But instead of the official Porsche N°6, leading the World Championship, it will be up to the N°5 to lead the discussions, in the hands of Matt Campbell, Frédéric Makowiecki, and Michael Christensen. The Stuttgart manufacturer could have locked the front row…with Proton N°99, entering the scene!

And the Cadillac, the lightest car on the grid according to the BoP, finally regains its potential by placing the N°2 car on the front row.

All eyes will be on Ferrari of course, to see if the three cars from Maranello will be able to make a comeback. The race promises to be tough!

The updated starting grid can be found here.
