Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ rankings after Berlin

Sébastien Buemi has finally unlocked his counter in this 2016 Formula E season! On the occasion of the eighth ePrix, held in the streets of Berlin, the Swiss driver claimed victory for the first time during the calendar year. Indeed, you have to go back to the third race of this season to find a victory by the Renault e.dams driver: an ePrix held in Punta del Este, in December 2015!

Even worse, the Swiss seemed to be evolving a notch below Lucas di Grassi, his main rival in the title race. In this regard, he was outperformed three times on track in the last four ePrix races. Di Grassi’s disqualification in Mexico actually saved him: without it, di Grassi would almost already be crowned champion!

In any case, this decision had at least the advantage of balancing the debates: in the five races held since January 2016, both Buemi and di Grassi finished on the podium four times each … with one race each outside the points. Buemi’s recent victory thus allows him to close the gap to just one point behind the Brazilian, with only two races left to go.

Behind, it’s now over for Sam Bird. With this eleventh place under the checkered flag, the DS Virgin driver is excluded from this race for the title. Nico Prost meanwhile surpasses Stéphane Sarrazin for the honorary title of best French driver. Three French drivers are still in the Top ten, even though Daniel Abt is this time interspersed between Sarrazin and Duval.

From a general point of view, eighteen drivers have scored points this season, out of a total of twenty-three competitors.

Five of them did not score any points. They are Jacques Villeneuve (ex-Venturi), Oliver Rowland (ex-Mahindra), Salvador Duran (ex-Team Aguri), Qing Hua Ma, and René Rast (Team Aguri)

Among the manufacturers, Daniel Abt’s second place in Berlin is a real source of satisfaction for the eponymous team.

For the second time this season, ABT Audi Sport places both of its representatives on the podium with Lucas di Grassi securing third place. Notably, this is the first time di Grassi has been overtaken on the track by his teammate.

However, the consistency displayed by the Buemi-Prost pair prevails and has done so since the beginning of the season. The Renault e.dams team remains in the lead with an 11-point advantage over its German rival: it will therefore have all the cards in hand to retain its title.

Like the drivers’ championship, we will also have a showdown between Renault e.dams and ABT Audi Sport during the final weekend in London. All other teams are now out of the running. Having moved up to third this weekend, the DS Virgin Racing team will certainly try to maintain its advantage over Dragon Racing.

Opposing dynamics for these two teams: while Jérôme d’Ambrosio and Loic Duval have fallen back since the Belgian’s success, the Franco-British structure is on the rise, despite Bird’s troubles during this Berlin ePrix.

Thus, as in 2015, the world of Formula E will gather in the heart of Battersea Park in London to witness the conclusion of this second season! The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3 on our site.
