Spanish Grand Prix – F2 Qualifying: Bearman impressive, French drivers lagging behind

During the first session of timed laps, it is Jack Doohan who sets the fastest time, quite comfortably ahead of Iwasa. The Australian, who has had a difficult start to the season, is finally showing his potential. The Prema drivers are staying in the pits, waiting for a clear track and wanting to save their tires.

Once the first pit stop was completed, it was the MP driver, Dennis Hauger, who took the best time. He finished his session even though there were still 12 minutes left on the clock.

Then, despite a very impressive time by Théo Pourchaire, it is the Brazilian Fittipaldi who takes the provisional first place by just over a tenth of a second.

In the last 5 minutes, the drivers prepare for their final fast lap. Iwasa takes the 2nd fastest time. The rookie Ollie Bearman then crosses the line with a 1.23.546 and claims provisional pole position. The Dams drivers, Iwasa and Leclerc, make one last attempt, but in vain. By 77 milliseconds, Bearman will start on pole on Sunday morning ahead of Enzo Fittipaldi and Jack Doohan.

Iwasa is 4th and Pourchaire completes the top 5. Martins is 7th, Novalak 19th and Hadjar 20th.

Vesti, the current leader of the championship and winner in Monaco, ranks 8th.

Cordeel will start from pole position for tomorrow’s sprint race.

Note, however, an investigation regarding Théo Pourchaire for blocking Dennis Hauger. The French driver could receive a penalty on the grid.
