Monaco Grand Prix – F2 Qualifications: Frederik Vesti takes pole in the chaos, Victor Martins is 2nd

For this weekend on the Rock, the format of the qualifiers has been modified compared to a traditional weekend. The logistics issue, here in Monaco, has led the FIA to organize two groups of qualifiers to avoid traffic.

Chaos in group A

The qualifications of the first group were chaotic. Six minutes before the end of the session, Arthur Leclerc drove his car full speed into the wall at the last turn, causing the first red flag of the session. Just before the end, Jehan Daruvala also crashed his car into the wall, resulting in another red flag.

Richard Verschoor seemed fast on the streets of Monaco and lit up the first sector in purple before Daruvala’s accident. However, the Dutchman couldn’t finish his lap because of this accident and thus finished third in the first group, behind Victor Martins (first) and Jack Doohan (second). The French driver set the fastest time in his group with a time of 1min21.231s, which was two tenths faster than the Australian driver.

The B group faster

Qualifying for Group B was slightly less chaotic. Ayumu Iwasa grazed the wall slightly five minutes from the end, but was able to continue his session. Championship leader Théo Pourchaire was very fast in Monaco but remained in second place behind Frederik Vesti after a red flag prematurely ended the session. The Danish driver from Prema Powerteam set a time of 1min21.053s, only 52 milliseconds ahead of Pourchaire. Zane Maloney finished third with a time of 1min21.463s.

The fastest time in group A being faster than that of group B, Vesti will start in pole position on Sunday, with Martins by his side on the first row of the grid.
