Styria – Race 2: Christian Lundgaard’s victory in the sprint race

Thanks to the reverse grid in the sprint race, Dan Ticktum starts from pole position with the young Marcus Armstrong by his side. The start goes smoothly except for yesterday’s feature race winner, Robert Shwartzmann, who makes a mistake on his own in the very first corner, forcing him to retire.

The lead drivers engaged in some great battles in the first part of the race. Notably, there was a decisive overtake by Christian Lundgaard on Dan Ticktum to take the lead in the race.

Author of a good start to the race, Mick Schumacher, starting 8th, managed to climb to 3rd place during the 12th lap. Unfortunately, he also had to resolve to retire following the accidental activation of the extinguisher integrated into his car. The second race of the weekend was fatal for the Prema team, which had to withdraw both of its cars from the sprint race.

We witnessed a rather calm second half of the race where the positions remained unchanged during the last 14 laps. Christian Lundgaard, 18 years old and a driver in the Renault program, thus claims his first F2 victory, ahead of Englishman Dan Ticktum and New Zealander Marcus Armstrong.

The French team Art Grand Prix has a great second race by placing its two single-seaters on the podium. Meanwhile, Giuliano Alesi finishes in 15th position in the race.
