The corruption case surrounding the sale of F1 to CVC in 2005, centered around the arrest of the German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky last January, saw a new development on April 6 when Bernie Ecclestone was questioned by Munich prosecutor Hildegard Baumler-Hosl.

Unfortunately for HRT, the revolution did not happen; the two drivers of the Spanish team find themselves once again at the back of the grid. However, a positive point from this session: HRT is getting closer to Virgin Racing.

After showing a drop in performance during free practice, the R31 seemed much more competitive during Q1. Vitaly Petrov recorded one of the 4 fastest times in both Q1 and Q2. However, despite being qualified, the Russian had to stop his car on the track a few minutes before the end of Q2, thus preventing his teammate from setting a good time in Q2. Nick Heidfeld ends up in 16th place, while Petrov cannot race in Q3 and qualifies by default in 10th place before likely receiving a penalty for a gearbox change. A very disappointing result today.

The Williams team did not achieve a strong performance today but cannot blame their drivers. The conditions with the red flag made the session very difficult to manage. Petrov stopped his car just as the two English cars were on their fast lap. The drivers did not return to the track to preserve their tires. The result is therefore mixed, but the race is another story.

After three qualifying sessions, Ferrari still cannot get closer to the leaders or even to McLaren. The Italian team will start from the 5th and 6th positions on the grid tomorrow, a result that hardly promises a podium, but you never know... Ferrari's performances have always been more flattering in the race than in qualifying since the beginning of the season.

The McLaren drivers were able to hope for a few minutes to dethrone Sebastian Vettel from the top of the time sheet. But once they reached Q3, the two Britons had to resign themselves to only seeking second place.

The W02 seems to have made progress on this circuit. The best evidence of this is Nico Rosberg's fourth position on the starting grid. His teammate was less fortunate. The red flag caused by the incident with Petrov and a new rear wing problem kept Schumacher out of Q3. The seven-time world champion is counting on a good race pace to gain a few positions.

For a change, Kobayashi was outpaced by his teammate Sergio Pérez today in qualifying. The Japanese driver did not make it into Q3 for the first time this season. However, the Sauber drivers are satisfied with their performance and even though the positions are not representative due to the red flag caused by Petrov, points are achievable in the race tomorrow.
