The Lotus Renault Grand Prix team knew that the qualifying session would be difficult, especially for Vitaly Petrov who received a five-place penalty for colliding with Michael Schumacher in South Korea. The Russian driver set the 11th fastest time and will therefore start 16th - quite far back. His teammate, Bruno Senna, will start just ahead from the 14th position, but with only one set of softs left for the race, he expects to face a tough Grand Prix. Vitaly Petrov, on the other hand, still hopes to climb back into the top 10 to bring a good result to the LRGP team.

By securing his thirteenth pole position of the season, the sixteenth for Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel enabled his team to hold the record for the most pole positions in a single season, previously held by McLaren with 15 pole positions achieved in 1988 by the formidable duo of Prost/Senna. Thanks to the penalty imposed on Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber, who qualified in 3rd position, will eventually start on the front row alongside his teammate.

The Williams team was rather pleased with their qualifying session today, even though the highest-placed driver – Pastor Maldonado – is only 13th on the grid. The Venezuelan believes he has a good car for race conditions and therefore expects a good battle to climb back into the top 10 and score some additional points. Rubens Barrichello, on the other hand, is perplexed and doesn't quite know what to expect for tomorrow.

A rather contrasting qualifying session for Scuderia Ferrari. Fernando Alonso will start from 3rd place on the grid tomorrow, which was quite unexpected for the Spaniard and the Italian team, even though the 150° Italia seemed competitive since Friday. However, the double world champion is not aiming for victory because he knows the Red Bull is equally competitive. As for Felipe Massa, things didn't go as well. The Brazilian driver broke his front right suspension in a collision with a curb, damaging the new wing brought by Ferrari to India. Nonetheless, he will start from 6th place on the grid and knows he has a good car for the race.

The Indian team can take pride in being at the forefront thanks to Adrian Sutil's good qualification, who will start eighth on a circuit he seems to have fallen for. Less on form than during free practice, Paul di Resta struggled with the balance of his car and has to settle for thirteenth place at the start.

The Virgin team didn't expect to face such a challenging qualifying session today. Jérôme d'Ambrosio was outpaced by both HRT drivers, although he will ultimately start ahead of them due to two penalties. As for Timo Glock, things didn't go as planned at all. The German driver experienced a gearbox issue and could only complete one timed lap, outside the 107% rule. He will have to wait for the stewards' decision to find out if he can take part in the race tomorrow.

While, for the first time since the Chinese Grand Prix, Scuderia Toro Rosso has both of its cars in Q3, the team from Faenza hopes to confirm their strong performance in the race and leave India with a substantial number of points in their pocket.

At the end of the qualifying session for the Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh circuit, drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher are ranked 7th and 12th on the starting grid, respectively. Not much progress compared to the third free practice session, even though Mercedes GP hoped for better from these qualifications...

The two HRT drivers had a good qualifying session by beating the two Virgin drivers, but both received a five-place penalty - for a gearbox change for Ricciardo and for impeding Schumacher in Q1 for Karthikeyan. They will therefore start behind Jérome d'Ambrosio's Virgin tomorrow, but they hope to finish ahead of the Belgian and his teammate Timo Glock.
