Franz Tost, the boss of the Toro Rosso team, predicted that 2011 could be a great season for Alguersuari, who, according to Tost, made major progress in 2010.
The twenty-year-old Spaniard finished the season in ninth place, beating Felipe Massa in Abu Dhabi. This performance brought his total points to eight, which is three less than his teammate Sébastien Buemi, but Tost said that looking beyond the results, Alguersuari impressed him a lot this year.
« It wasn’t just a good end of the season, Jaime overall had a good season. Let’s go back to Australia when he fought against Michael Schumacher for 30 laps. In Malaysia, he had a fantastic race. We have plenty of strengths. »
Alguersuari, former British Formula 3 champion, was then promoted from Formula Renault 3.5 to the Toro Rosso team in the middle of the 2009 season without conducting any tests, after the team fired Sébastien Bourdais.
Tost said that this year Alguersuari had the chance to build experience, and with a full season under his belt, he is now ready for an impressive 2011 season.
I think he learned about the car this season and I’m looking forward to the next season because I think he’s matured enough to improve himself. But we also need to give him the right tools. He needs a good car, and I’m convinced he can do even better.
