Mercedes wants to return to the front in Malaysia!

Mercedes did not start the 2010 season as it would have liked. Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher are having a harder time with the MGP than Button and Barrichello did last year with the BGP. However, the team is not giving up and wants to make up for lost ground starting in Malaysia.

The team also acknowledged that they do not want to start the year at the forefront, but rather focus on development in order to join the battle later on.

Norbert Haug claims that the team’s ambitions have not changed: « I am not the one who is going to shout that we are going to win the world title, but we wish for many victories, as well as many podiums and a maximum of points. We are very much in the hunt. Ask our competitors, I’d be surprised if any of them told you to forget about us ».

M. Schumacher – 10th:

« I could have had a good race today, but I got hit in the first corner, which decided the rest of my race. But these things happen, ‘That’s racing’ as they say. I resumed the race from the last position after pitting, but it was fun, our pace is promising, for part of the race we were going faster than the leading group. It’s good to take a point here and it gives us a good feeling for the next race, where new challenges await us. I take a lot of positives from this weekend, even if it doesn’t show at first glance we have improved the car well, and we are not too far off. »

N.Rosberg – 5th:

5th place is a good result after today’s challenging race. I had a bad start in the rain, then we lacked pace, and the degradation of my rear tires was very bad. We therefore opted for a second stop to put on new tires for a push. That said, even with the tire advantage, it would have been difficult to overtake the drivers ahead after catching them, and it’s good to have gained those two places when Mark and Lewis (Note: Webber and Hamilton) had their incident. We need to continue scoring points while we improve the car. Overall, it’s a good weekend.

Ross Brawn – Director:

Nico did a very good job today, and attacked very hard to secure 5th place. He was in a reasonable position halfway through, but we were concerned about his tires, which were degrading, causing him to lose a position to Lewis (Hamilton).

«As expected, after the tire change he caught up with the pack at the end of the race and was able to take advantage of the incident. As for Michael, his race was made very difficult by the impact at the first corner, but he persevered to finally score a point.»

Overall, I am satisfied with the way the team managed this weekend. We need to improve our performances, it is not out of reach, and we have much to look forward to in the upcoming races. Congratulations to Jenson (Button) for his performance and today’s victory.

A Mercedes team that continues its development in order to join the race for the title later, with two drivers who are getting the most out of their car.
