The FIA confirmed that Damon Hill will be among the official race stewards later in the season to assist drivers during Grand Prix.
Among the new innovations this year, a former driver will join the three regular stewards at each race to make decisions on penalties and, or various similar issues. The change is in response to criticism that permanent stewards have not had enough experience driving an F1 car when it comes to judging controversial incidents.
The four-time world champion, Alain Prost, will fulfill this role this weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix, and FIA Vice President, Graham Stoker, stated today that the 1996 champion, Damon Hill, is likely to participate in two races as well.
Damon Hill agrees to do two events. He is likely to do it for Monaco and another race. We have a range of other drivers who have positively said they will come to help us, said Stoker.
Damon Hill, with 115 Grand Prix for Brabham, Williams, Arrows, and Jordan between 1992 and 1999, is also the president of the Silverstone circuit as well as the owner of the British Racing Drivers club, English racing drivers.
