Hamilton acknowledges his fault in his clash with Alonso

Lewis Hamilton revealed that the difficult situation in which he and Fernando Alonso found themselves, as teammates at McLaren, is partly his fault. However, according to him, it didn’t happen because the team gave him better treatment during the 2007 season but because he misunderstood the stakes at the time.

Arriving at McLaren as a rookie in 2007, he had a very strong championship and finished second with the same number of points as Alonso. But the rupture occurred mid-season when the Spaniard accused McLaren of favoring Hamilton, leading Alonso to leave the team after just one season and return to Renault.

« At the start of my first year, I was alongside the double world champion and he was tipped as the favorite to win the championship. I think at that moment I misunderstood the team’s objectives and functioning. » stated Hamilton in an interview given to the BBC.

He also insisted that McLaren had done everything possible to give both drivers the same chances in the championship.
