Points for pole position and fastest lap in 2010?

Confirmed by the FIA at the beginning of this month, the points system in F1 will radically change starting from the next F1 season. It now seems that the new scale – similar to that of MotoGP – could once again undergo some modifications in January, when teams submit them to the FIA.

It is the Ferrari team director, Stefano Domenicali, who revealed the information in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa. According to the newspaper, the teams want the driver who secures pole position and the one who sets the fastest lap in the race to be rewarded with championship points.

Such a format already exists in other championships such as Indycar or the GP2 Series.

Yes, the scale is close to being reviewed. There is a proposal to reward pole position and the fastest lap in the race, Domenicali stated in the columns of the Italian newspaper.

It has not been revealed how many points would be awarded in such cases, so the matter will need to be followed in January if all FOTA members agree and submit the proposed modification to the FIA. As a reminder, the new scoring system rewards the top 10 drivers at the end of the race, with the winner earning 25 points.
