The 2010 Formula 1 season could have brought us not one but two Schumachers on the starting grids. Indeed, alongside the highly publicized comeback of Michael Schumacher, his brother Ralf revealed that he could have made his return to F1 if he truly wanted to. However, the offers he received did not meet his expectations.
Ralf received a concrete offer to return to F1 in 2010, but it wasn’t for the challenge he wanted, an friend of the driver, who retired at the end of 2007, stated in the newspaper Bild.
Ralf also admitted himself that he would have signed immediately if he had been in his brother’s place. It seems that the offer Ralf received came from a new team (USF1, Lotus, Virgin, or Campos), leading the DTM driver to have some hesitations before making his return.
«Honestly, I wouldn’t have hesitated for a second, » stated the 34-year-old German, who is currently preparing for a third season in DTM. «With Mercedes in DTM, I feel very good, but I am sure I will quickly readjust to the speed of a Formula 1 car. »
Although less successful than his brother’s, Ralf’s F1 career experienced some great moments over his 11 seasons in the discipline. The German driver secured 6 victories and 27 podiums, primarily with Williams, and finished 4th in the 2001 and 2002 championships.
