Norbert Haug confirmed that there were talks between Mercedes and Nick Heidfeld regarding a seat for the 2010 season. The 32-year-old German driver is looking for a team after BMW’s withdrawal last August.
“We are talking with Nick Heidfeld like this,” comments Haug, the competition director at Mercedes to DPA. “Mercedes-Benz believes that the idea of signing an experienced and competent German driver would be good for the future. However, there is no reason to speak too soon,” adds Norbert Haug.
The German Heidfeld wrote on his official website that he is not worried about his future after being unable to achieve the same results as in 2008 with BMW Sauber. Fortunately, team managers do not rely solely on points scored, but they see beyond. Overall, I am quite optimistic, notes the former teammate of Robert Kubica.
We remember that during the 2009 season, Nick Heidfeld took 19 points, 2 more than Robert Kubica. The German driver has been racing since 2000 and would like to secure a place for 2010, which would give him the status of a driver with extensive experience.
