Bridgestone will withdraw from Formula 1 at the end of the 2010 season. Indeed, the Japanese tire manufacturer announced its decision not to renew its contract with F1 this Monday morning.
Bridgestone’s director Hiroshi Yasakuwa states in a press release: The decision made by the board of directors comes after considerable and lengthy evaluations, and these decisions have been based on the company’s need to reallocate its resources towards more intensive development of innovative technologies.
We remember that Bridgestone had been a tire supplier in Formula 1 since 1997 and had been the sole supplier since the start of the 2007 season after Michelin’s departure.
Our sincere thanks go to Bernie Ecclestone, to the FOM, and to the Formula 1 teams with whom it was an honor to work alongside, adds Yusakawa.
Bridgestone will nevertheless continue its role as a partner in GP2 and GP2 Asia, and will also remain the sole supplier in Moto GP at least until 2011.
