Official: Nico Rosberg confirms leaving Williams

Nico Rosberg confirmed that he would leave the Williams team at the end of the 2009 season, after four seasons with the British team.

Rosberg has been expected, for several weeks, at Brawn GP and McLaren, and he has clearly stated that he wants to drive a winning car in 2010. The young German driver confirmed in Abu Dhabi this Thursday that he is about to leave Williams after the expiration of his current contract.

“This is my last race for Williams,” said Rosberg. “And that is true. It’s a bit strange because for the past four or five years, they are the only team I’ve worked with, so it’s been a long time. I get along very well with everyone, obviously, and a lot of respect has been earned during this period with the mechanics and everyone. So it will be quite strange to leave.”

I can also use this opportunity to thank the team, because overall I think they have done a lot of good for my career. Especially Sir Frank [Williams], Adam Parr, Sam Michael, and Patrick [Head], they have supported my career throughout all these years. So I extend a big thank you to them.

Nico Rosberg added: “I don’t want to talk about my future. I just want to say that I won’t be with Williams, because that’s the only thing I am sure about.”

Nico Rosberg is strongly expected to sign with Mercedes-Benz, either with McLaren or Brawn GP.
