Sir Richard Branson is not yet ready to confirm his plans regarding the involvement of his brand, Virgin, in Formula One next year.
The English millionaire had arranged a sponsorship deal for $400,000 per race with Brawn GP this year, which proved fruitful. But between the success of the Brackley team driving up its rates and the negotiations between Virgin and Manor, everything suggests that the brand will engage in a sponsorship partnership with the latter and part ways with Brawn GP.
But speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Richard Branson said he was not ready to confirm his plans for 2010 at the moment. “We will make a decision after Abu Dhabi,” he stated.
Branson, however, indicated that the conditions under which Virgin chose to get involved with Brawn GP are no longer present, but stated that it was not the right time to announce a separation.
«Virgin likes to support outsiders, but it is now clear that Brawn is one of the most expensive teams (to sponsor) at present, and that they are no longer outsiders,» he insisted. «We will make an announcement during the next month but for now, we just want to celebrate a magnificent season with the Brawn GP team.»
