Review – Missed opportunity for Force India

The Force India team was quite confident before the start. Their young driver Adrian Sutil, who was starting from 3rd position on the grid, was well-positioned to secure a very good points finish. But unfortunately, he never saw it, due to an overly optimistic Jarno Trulli who sent him straight into the gravel trap.

Vitantonio Liuzzi started last due to going off the track in qualifying as his team had to change the gearbox. He continues his learning at the wheel of an F1 as he crosses the checkered flag once again. The Force India team is optimistic for Abu Dhabi, hoping to have a great final race without any hitches.

Adrian Sutil – Retirement:

I got off to a good start then lost a position to Kimi who overtook me on the outside. I thought I would get it back at the next corner but then Kimi and Webber touched and Kimi lost his front wing. I was following him into the corner, but suddenly I was hit from behind and lost control of the car. Trulli was there on the outside, trying to overtake me. It was a really stupid maneuver because there was no space and I couldn’t see him at all. My race ended far too early as I went into the gravel. Jarno was furious and told me it was my fault, but I disagree and told him what happened from my perspective. Now it’s over and we have to accept it.

Vitantonio Liuzzi – 12th:

It was a long race, starting from last place on the grid after the gearbox change yesterday. With the hard tires in the first stint, I had a good pace, but we struggled with a lot of oversteer in the second and I couldn’t get past Giancarlo. Then, at the end, I had a brake issue, which compromised the race, but at least we finished this difficult Grand Prix. We had hoped for rain because we seemed to be very competitive in those conditions, but that’s how it is and now we can just look forward to going to Abu Dhabi.

Dr Vijay Mallya – Team President and Director:

First of all, congratulations to Jenson Button and Ross Brawn for winning their first world title. Their performance this season has been quite astounding and they thoroughly deserve this success. For Force India, it’s sure that we expected much more from this race. Adrian did an amazing job in qualifying and we were confident about what we could achieve, but unfortunately, he was a victim of the accident. He didn’t deserve that. Tonio’s race was going to be difficult after yesterday’s crash, but he finished another race again, just behind a Ferrari! We are all really looking forward to Abu Dhabi. The car is performing well, the drivers are confident, and the track should suit us quite well.
