“Gagne, mais à Abu Dhabi s’il te plait” – Ecclestone to Button

Bernie Ecclestone would like to see Jenson Button become the second consecutive British world champion this year, but admits he would prefer to see the championship go down to the wire for the fourth consecutive year.

With Fernando Alonso being the last man to seal a driver’s crown before the final race of a season, and making Renault champion with two races to spare in 2005.

The holder of F1’s commercial rights, Ecclestone, insists that the last race of the championship should always be the best way to end a season.

« Button will be a good champion », said Ecclestone to the newspaper Le Parisien.

Having said that, I would like him to do me a big favor and wait for the last race of the year in Abu Dhabi before becoming champion, because it is always more enjoyable when the championship is decided in the last race.

Bernie Ecclestone will find out if his wish will be granted or not at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix in São Paulo, where Jenson Button will start from a modest 14th position on the grid.
