The Ferrari team, still in the race to finish in 3rd place in the constructors’ standings, may have taken another step forward this Saturday, thanks to Kimi Räikkönen’s very good qualifying. Indeed, after a session interrupted many times, he managed to place his car in 5th position. Giancarlo Fisichella, on the other hand, is unable to match the level of the Finn and ranks in the last position.
Sunday’s race will be thrilling, and Ferrari fully intends to climb onto the podium to consolidate their 3rd place in the constructors’ championship.
Kimi Räikkönen – 11th and 5th:
« Overall, I am happy with this result. With the extreme tires, we were very competitive. However, with the intermediate tires, the car was not easy to drive because it is difficult to get them to work well. If it rains tomorrow, it will be challenging because you can’t see anything if you’re behind another car, and the conditions will be really difficult. It was the right decision to delay the qualifying session, at least the conditions were a bit better. »
Giancarlo Fisichella – 18th and 19th (20th time):
«When the qualifying session started, the conditions were almost impossible. I ended up running even if I wasn’t going very fast, but the track was really flooded. Kimi’s performances are great, I hope he will bring back some points because on my side, it doesn’t seem to be going well. I am really unhappy because I want so much to show my worth in a big team like Ferrari.»
Stefano Dominecali – Team Principal:
The race tomorrow will be very important in the battle for 3rd place. Even if McLaren appears at the back of the grid, they should be watched out for, just like Toyota, which is not that far behind in the standings.
