Friday: Red Bull experiences a trouble-free Friday

The two Red Bull drivers enjoyed their Friday, which went off without a hitch. The Red Bull car is, as expected, comfortable on the Interlagos track. It’s nonetheless surprising to find both drivers so high in the rankings — the team is supposed to be conserving their Renault engines. Could the RB5 once again be significantly faster than the competition? Unless the team is confident that the power units will hold up during the remaining two races and has decided to go all out.

Mark Webber set the fastest time in the first practice session, and by quite a margin, but was unable to improve his time in the second session. As for Sebastian Vettel, he managed to make progress between the two sessions, but despite that, he dropped to seventh place in the rankings. Both drivers, judging by the sector times, have achieved balanced settings and enjoy good top speed. However, according to Sebastian Vettel, the car is not yet at its maximum speed…

Sebastian Vettel – 3rd and 7th:

All in all, it’s a good Friday. We had another practice session without any engine problems, despite having completed many laps, so thanks to Renault for that. Besides that, we were fast throughout the day. We will now analyze the data, and I am confident we can still improve. We should have enough time by tomorrow to make another step forward. The weather stayed calm; I believe today was supposed to be the day with a lot of rain, which was not the case. Maybe that means rain for Sunday? … We’ll see.

Mark Webber – 1st and 4th:

We really couldn’t have hoped for better today. The guys did a great job so that we could run as much as possible despite the tricky track conditions. We avoided the showers here and there, but we planned things as best as we could. It was one of the most encouraging Fridays we’ve had in a long time. I hope it continues this way tomorrow. We’ve seen that things can change day by day with this championship, so I’m eager to see what happens in qualifying. It should be good for us.
