Fernando Alonso cannot escape the accusation that he was aware of the Renault team’s conspiracy last year at the Singapore GP. Any hope that the FIA World Council’s verdict would put an end to the matter has been abandoned. Not only did Felipe Massa declare that he knew about it and categorically refused to retract the accusation, despite Ferrari’s attempts to downplay the situation, but Nelson Piquet Sr has once again reiterated his suspicions against the Spaniard.
« They all knew about this subject », said Nelson Piquet Sr «. Do you think Fernando Alonso was going to design a race where he starts in 15th place and makes a pit stop almost immediately? It was a perfect plan. »
The concern in the Spaniard’s camp would be the claim made by James Allen on his personal blog, « Many drivers say the same thing in private, but did not want to say it publicly. »
An interesting detail, James Allen, just as Motors Inside had done before, suggests that Felipe Massa’s incendiary remarks were motivated by a refusal to be intimidated by the imminent arrival of the double world champion.
« What is fascinating about Massa’s comments here is that he wants to show Alonso from the start that this is not child’s play and he will have no qualms about probing Alonso’s weak points, such as the doubt about his involvement in the crash scandal and, therefore, by extension, his reputation, » states James Allen.
The impression that Felipe Massa is seeking to unsettle Fernando Alonso is undeniable. The Brazilian has stated about his future teammate that he will have to adapt to Ferrari, rather than the other way around: « Fernando will have to adapt to Ferrari’s style and not the other way around, » the Brazilian declared. « I know how Ferrari works, he must learn. If I went to Renault, it would be up to me to adapt. »
