During the afternoon of this Saturday, the medical exams that Felipe Massa had to undergo at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris were concluded.
Indeed, on Friday, the examinations were primarily ophthalmological in nature. The results showed that the Brazilian driver’s left eye had fully recovered its functions. Meanwhile, this Saturday, the examinations were focused on the neurological domain.
The Ferrari press release states that the medical team, coordinated by Professor Jean-Charles Piette, FIA’s medical delegate, concluded that the results were positive and therefore declared him fit to return to the track.
Felipe Massa will return to Maranello, where on Monday, he will go through another stage of his recovery program, devised by his personal doctor, Dino Altmann, and the Scuderia Ferrari. The Brazilian will take the wheel of a private Ferrari F2007 single-seater, fitted with GP2 tires, and will conduct a day of testing without the assistance of the Scuderia Ferrari’s F1 Client department. All of this is aimed at complying with the regulations that prohibit private testing.
Felipe Massa admitted on the official Formula 1 website that there is little chance he will be ready for the Abu Dhabi race, as he initially hoped. However, he remains confident that he will be fully fit in time for the start of the 2010 season.
