Williams must quickly make a decision regarding their engines

The boss of Williams, Frank Williams, believes that his team must make a quick decision regarding engine plans for the 2010 season. Williams, currently powered by Toyota, seemed for a time to be highly interested in the Renault engine, but a potential agreement was delayed due to the French team’s involvement in the crashgate.

The Grove team is currently still considering its options, but Frank Williams thinks that from a technical standpoint, it’s clear the decision needs to be made quickly. “The decision will be imminent,” Frank Williams declares. “It’s a technical choice and it requires careful verification and a period of consideration from Patrick [Head] and Sam [Michael], plus some negotiations by Adam [Parr] once that’s decided. We need to hurry because we don’t want to fall behind on the design of our car.”

The delay in this decision is problematic for Williams, even if Brawn GP demonstrated this year that installing an engine at the last moment in the single-seater is not necessarily prohibitive.

When asked if people are excited about the idea of a new partnership between Williams and Renault, the team principal responds: «Absolutely». Frank Williams also suggested that the Cosworth engine remains a possibility.

The director of Red Bull, Christian Horner, states that his team, powered by Renault, is in a similar situation. « We are in a situation where we need to know in the relatively near future, but nothing is decided at the moment. » Christian Horner declared.
