The Scuderia Ferrari driver was back in Maranello yesterday morning. Only two months after the accident where he was seriously injured in the head at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Brazilian arrived at the Scuderia Ferrari facility, where he was immediately greeted by Stefano Domenicali, who had just returned from Suzuka. After a debriefing, he was already back at work, which promises to be very busy in the coming weeks.
« I am finally back home. This is my second family here, and I couldn’t wait any longer to see them again, all the people I’ve worked with for many years are here, and they have been close to me during this time. Now I can truly say that I’m really starting to work again. There is a lot to do, but I am happy. I love being in Maranello. » said the Brazilian driver in a press release.
The FIA stewards have accepted Scuderia Ferrari’s request concerning Felipe Massa’s return to racing; Massa will therefore conduct a test on the F2007 equipped with GP2 tires for medical reasons, as Michael Schumacher did for his neck. After this test, FIA doctors will be able to assess his fitness to return to Formula 1. The day he will be on the track has not yet been determined. However, the Federation specified in a statement that this initiative does not represent any violation of the 2009 rules, which prohibit testing during the season.
Felipe Massa, happy, seemed in great shape. He had a meeting with Stefano Domenicali where he learned about his schedule for the upcoming days. The Scuderia driver will work in a development program set up at the beginning of the season by the team, which involves simulator activities at a very high pace to optimize his recovery. He will have technical meetings with the engineers and will do a lot of physical exercises. Additionally, he arrived in Italy with his personal trainer.
Regarding the test of the F2007, Massa has not indicated any date yet. Next week doesn’t seem realistic, and he will probably have to wait until the following week.
« It is good to have Felipe back with us and I am happy because I can hug him again. We called President Luca Di Montezemolo together and he was happy to greet Felipe and wish him good luck for his return. They have scheduled an appointment in the coming days. Yesterday, we had technical meetings and exercises mainly based on physical fitness. Felipe has everything to return to top form and he has a very demanding period ahead with constant activities, but he knows we are not in a rush. » commented Stefano Domenicali at the end of the day.
Felipe Massa also visited Ferrari’s new production line where the 458 Italia will be produced.
Before going to training, the Brazilian responded to numerous letters and comments that arrived on the official Ferrari website in recent days. The prancing horse driver will not be on the track at his national Grand Prix in two weeks, but would like to be able to drive for the last Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi.
