The Force India team expected to finish in the points this weekend with Adrian Sutil starting 8th on the grid, but after a collision with driver Heikki Kovalainen at the chicane braking on lap 13, his race was ruined. The German driver had a slight advantage over the Finnish driver, but the latter closed the door and sent the German driver into a spin.
As for Vitantonio Liuzzi, who started from 18th position, he had a very solid race for his third appearance with Force India and managed to climb up to finish in 13th place. However, the team is determined to be competitive in Brazil to fight for points again.
Adrian Sutil – 14th:
The race was really disappointing. The start was good and I was able to maintain my position, but then I fell back to ninth place. Then I got stuck behind Kovalainen. I passed him at the chicane, but he squeezed me and we touched. I spun off and lost way too much time. It was really the end of the race for me. When that happens, it’s obviously very disappointing because I thought we could have done much better today and scored some points. We simply have to look forward to Brazil, it’s the same type of circuit and the car should be competitive.
Vitantonio Liuzzi – 13th:
Overall, I think it wasn’t a bad race. Starting from my position on the grid, it’s always difficult to score points. But we showed good race pace and never gave up. I had a nice battle with Fernando then with the Williams, and also with the Toro Rosso so I think it was a good effort for the team.
Dr Vijay Mallya – President and Team Director:
« We were expecting a better result for this race, given Adrian’s performance in qualifying. It cost us dearly that Adrian got stuck behind Rosberg, who was heavier, before falling behind Kovalainen. For Adrian, the race was then compromised when he attempted to pass the McLaren, but he nevertheless demonstrated that the car performs very well under these conditions and that we are able to compete with the best teams during the race. Tonio had a good race for his third participation with us. His confidence is now high, and we should be in the mix for the next race in Brazil. Hopefully, next time we can achieve good results to prove it. »
