Toro Rosso confirms its driver duo for 2010

Toro Rosso has confirmed that it will not change its driver pair for next season. It was reported earlier this week that director Franz Tost wanted to keep Sébastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari. The Red Bull headquarters in Salzburg, as well as Dietrich Mateschitz, have finally given their approval.

In an official statement from Toro Rosso, dated today and dealing with the subject of transfers and notably Alonso’s move to Ferrari, you can read this sentence: « In case you didn’t know, there is no change in our driver lineup. » No information has yet been leaked regarding the terms of the contracts.

Asked about Buemi, Tost says: «First of all regarding Buemi, he had Bourdais under control in qualifying. Now, on Saturdays, as was the case in Singapore, he is always faster than Alguersuari. His strong physical condition is an excellent foundation for his speed, as well as his work attitude. It’s only a shame that he puts too much pressure on himself and is too quickly disappointed. Buemi must accept that the development process of an F1 driver takes three years.»

After a convincing 2008 season capped by a victory in Monza, Toro Rosso has spent most of this season at the back of the pack, but Franz Tost insists he is not disappointed: “We must stay realistic; we are probably the smallest team. Moreover, we are focused on the next season. Our technical director Giorgio Ascanelli was not in Singapore because he is building our new car in Faenza,” he explained.
