Japanese GP: Toro Rosso Will Give Their All

The two Toro Rosso drivers arrive in uncharted territory this weekend. Neither Sébastien Buemi nor Jaime Alguersuari have driven on the renowned 5.807-kilometer Suzuka track used for the Japanese Grand Prix. Toro Rosso doesn’t really have any objectives at the end of this season. The team is last in the constructors’ championship with 5 points, trailing Force India by 8 points.

Toro Rosso is putting a lot of energy into increasing its workforce in order to prepare for the design of next year’s car, which it must develop itself. Franz Tost, Toro Rosso’s director, hopes to keep his driver duo, which would make the evaluation work of the new car easier. But the final decision will be made in Salzburg at the Red Bull F1 headquarters with the approval of the team’s co-owner, Dietrich Mateschitz. Despite this, the team is bringing a few updates to their car for this weekend and will do their utmost to achieve good results.

Sébastien Buemi – Racing Driver:

I was present in Japan last year as I was driving the medical car in Fuji, but I have never been to Suzuka. I used the simulator to practice on this track which seems fabulous. I am really looking forward to driving there for real. I learned that the surface has been resurfaced and that the paddocks and pits have been revamped. I think it’s one of the best circuits in the world. Japan is very strange and completely different from what you can see in Europe. I went to Tokyo, it’s a fantastically modern city, although some people wear outrageous clothing! I left with a good impression. People treat others with a lot of respect and everything is very clean. Regarding the race, I think we can do well since we will have a new update for the car. In Singapore, we were less competitive than in past races, but I think we will be better in Japan.

Jaime Alguersuari – Racing Driver:

« I have been to Suzuka before, in 2005 for a karting race, the Asia-Pacific World Cup, but of course, we were not using the Formula 1 track! I was leading the race on the last lap, but I had an accident with Kazuki Nakajima in the final corner and finished second. Being in Japan for the first time was an incredible experience, and I felt like I was in a whole different world. It is a dream for me to now be able to drive on the real circuit, after watching it. I have driven on this track in the simulator as well as in video games. I hope we have a successful weekend. »
