Nick Heidfeld could return to one of his former teams, Williams. The 32-year-old German veteran had driven for Williams in 2005, when it was powered by BMW, alongside Mark Webber. He was then transferred to the Munich team as it began under its own name in 2006. The other drivers linked to Williams for 2010, in addition to Nico Hülkenberg, are Heikki Kovalainen, Rubens Barrichello, and Timo Glock.
The technical director of Williams, Sam Michael, admits to holding Heidfeld in high regard: « Against Kubica, Nick looks really good. To say that his career would be over is completely ridiculous, » Sam Michael told Auto Bild Motorsport.
It can easily be thought that the Grove team hopes to have an experienced driver alongside Nico Hülkenberg. Nico Rosberg hopes to move from Williams to Brawn, after the McLaren option closed on him with Kimi Räikkönen’s arrival in Woking, a consequence of Fernando Alonso’s transfer to Ferrari. Today, there are several advantages to having an experienced driver, as everyone knows well that private testing is banned. Taking a rookie is, without a doubt, a risk.
