Fernando Alonso is reportedly about to sign a 5-year contract for a total salary of nearly 150 million euros. It was announced by a Spanish radio station, Cadena Ser, on Tuesday.
The agreement between the two parties is expected to be signed this Thursday in Suzuka, Japan. Alonso would sign for four years, until 2014, with an option for an additional year. The Oviedo driver, under contract with Renault until the end of 2010 but with the option to leave at the end of 2009, would receive a salary of 25 million euros per year.
Sources indicate that Ferrari will announce the signing of this contract through Stefano Domenicali this Thursday. “As soon as we are ready, we will let you know. We don’t want to wait too long,” said Ferrari’s team director in Singapore.
If Alonso’s departure is confirmed, this would place Kubica in a Renault and Räikkönen would return to his former employer, McLaren-Mercedes.
