Renault is disqualified for life from the Formula One World Championship with a 2-year suspended sentence. This means that if Renault breaks the Formula 1 sporting regulations even once during this period, it will be banned for life from the F1 World Championship.
The investigations conducted by both the Council and Renault concluded that team director Flavio Briatore, technical director Pat Symonds, and driver Nelson Piquet Jr. did indeed plan the crash to benefit Fernando Alonso’s race strategy. Neither Renault staff nor Alonso were found to be aware of the conspiracy.
The Council also sanctioned Briatore and Symonds individually. Neither of them is allowed to participate in any way in an FIA-sanctioned sport. Flavio Briatore is banned permanently, and Symonds for a duration of 5 years. Piquet was granted immunity by the FIA for voluntarily informing the Council of the affair and providing his full cooperation.
