The World Motor Sport Council heard the protagonists of the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix scandal this morning in Paris and is expected to deliver its verdict this Monday afternoon, according to a spokesperson for the FIA on site.
Renault F1 faces allegations that it ordered its driver Nelson Piquet Jr to deliberately cause an accident, and faces heavy sanctions, ranging from a fine to permanent exclusion from Formula 1.
As planned, Nelson Piquet Jr. and Fernando Alonso, the two drivers involved, were heard, as well as Bernard Rey, president of ING Renault F1. Pat Symonds was not invited, and Flavio Briatore was not seen.
The hearings lasted an hour and a half, and the World Council, composed of 26 members, FIA leaders, and representatives of automobile clubs worldwide, withdrew to deliberate. The verdict is expected late afternoon.
