Assessment: Toro Rosso falters at home

Scuderia Toro Rosso did not have the opportunity to shine in Italy this year. We remember Sebastian Vettel who won with Toro Rosso at Monza, but no such feat in 2009. On the contrary, the young Spaniard Jaime Alguersuari started and finished his race in the pits due to a gearbox problem. A disappointment for a driver who needs to accumulate experience and mileage.

Buemi managed to finish this Grand Prix, but in 13th position. The assessment for Franz Tost’s team is not cheerful, and with great hope, Toro Rosso will want to bridge the gap throughout the next four Grand Prix.

Sébastien Buemi – 13th:

Starting from the back of the grid, the race is never easy, but I feel that my lap times were better, especially in the second stint, so I’m reasonably satisfied. From now on, we will see circuits that are slower and more technical, so with more downforce. We will see if that is better for us. Some teams have made good progress recently, so we need to see if we can manage to close the gap.

Jaime Alguersuari – Retirement

I started the race from the pits, and then I was right behind Buemi. But then I had a gearbox problem that made me retire. I also experienced other issues on Friday, and when a weekend starts badly, it often ends badly too. I’m very disappointed not to finish the Grand Prix, as it is very important for me to rack up the miles.

Franz Tost – Team Principal:

The race was a good lesson for Buemi, as he finished his race and successfully executed a nice overtaking maneuver on Fisichella. His second stint with the soft tires was very good. Alguersuari had a gearbox problem, and we called him back to the pits. The positive aspect of this weekend is the learning and improvement of our two drivers.
